Separating core and custom software teams

Well after a lot of discussions we are recuiting more technical staff and formally separating our technical team from the designers and developers that work on all of our custom application projects.

Although I am completely convinced that this is the right way to go - it still seems crazy to be recruiting yet again! And in the middle of this long running recession / slow growth economy here in the UK.

The general approach is going to be that both teams are completely self sufficient in terms of designers and developers - but sharing Information Architect resource at the prototyping stage and testers near project completion. We will be abe to lend resource to the core team, but never borrow from it - protecting the release schedule of the Claromentis framework.

We don't intend to physically isolate the team as we want to encourage the informal sharing of methodologies and experience that comes from informal exchange of ideas.

I am excited by these decisions and our plans - and interested how disciplined we can be in protecting our own software schedules when custom application workload is high!
