Change in Location

I have underrated the impact of a change in physical location for much of my working life but recently this has really been something I have really come to believe in.

In order to continue our growth, recruit staff and work with other internet companies Claromentis recently moved to central Brighton, away from our rural manor house location in Sussex.

I have seen this move as a very positive step for our company for many reasons. But in addition to all the strategic benefits, I strongly believe that this has had the following benefits:

A chance for a general clear out
A renewal of commitment and energy levels
A reassessment of priorities and functional responsibilities

I am extending this concept to less important levels than our actual location – starting to plan for regular meetings that take 2 days, are outside the UK and get key players away from the minutiae and give them a chance to recharge their batteries and get much more creative.

It seems that a change in physical location just ups the energy levels for all on whatever timescale you make it for – there is something about the human brain that gets a great buzz from a new environment.
